Visit Malahide a colourful Dublin village by the sea

With so much to see and do here it’s understandable why it gets such an influx of visitors from near and far and attracts the many rich and famous people who appreciate the good scenery, an abundance of activities and much more.
Listed are some of the many attractions, activities and recommendations you can avail of with a trip to Malahide.
Malahide Castle
Malahide Castle is situated on 250 acres of parkland. It dates back to 1185 and a tour of the castle comes highly recommended. It was the home of the Talbot family until 1975 when the last family member died, today portraits of the Talbot family still adorn the great hallway. You can also admire paintings from The National Gallery and the amazing period furniture that furnishes the castle throughout. Access to the castle is only by guided tour. There’s also a private banquet room that can cater for up to 70 people.
The Talbot Botanic Gardens
The Talbot Botanic Gardens were created by Lord Milo Talbot between the years of 1848 and 1973. These charming gardens set off Malahide Castle in all its glory and contain approximately 5,000 different types of species distributing wonderful colours throughout the main and walled gardens.
There is also a restaurant and craft shop available at Malahide Castle, with car parking and coach parking available as well.
Opening times of the castle and gardens:
January to December: Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
April to September, Sundays and Public Holidays from 10am to 6pm.
October to March, Sundays and Public Holidays from 11am to 5pm.
It closes for tours during lunch hours from 12.45pm to 2pm. The restaurant remains open during lunch hour.
Taras Palace
Tara’s Palace is a miniature dolls house located in the Courtyard of Malahide Castle. It’s without doubt one of the world’s most important dolls houses and is well worth a visit. It has taken over a decade to complete and the detail certainly shows it. There’s also a collection of antique toys, dolls as well as other dolls houses.
Opening times:
From April 1st to September 30th – Monday to Saturday 10am to 1pm & 2pm to 5pm.
It’s closed on Wednesdays.
Sundays and Public Holidays: 1pm to 5 pm.
The Fry Model Railway
The Fry Model Railway is certainly a treat for all railway enthusiasts. Feast your eyes on the many unique handmade models of Irish trains that date from the first trains to modern day trains. The Fry Model Railway is located on the grounds of Malahide Castle and is one of the largest model railways in the world. With amazing attention to detail and a huge selection you wont be disappointed.
Malahide Golf Club
Malahide Golf Club is a beautiful 27-hole parkland golf course that will please golf enthusiasts of all levels. With heavenly views and surrounded by the Irish Sea and ever changing wind direction, this truly is a golf course that is very much enhanced by natures beauty and the beauty of Malahide.
